atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. The JCC Specialty Camps emphasize skill development
and learningcomplemented with teamwork, strategy and tons of summer fun!
All Specialty Camps are co-ed and make use of the JCC’s beautiful indoor and outdoor
athletic facilities including outdoor fields, outdoor and indoor basketball courts,
tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pool, dance studio and spinning studio.

Join the JCC Tennis Camp for a full day of tennis, swimming and summer fun. Campers will get valuable instruction on tennis basics including forehand, backhand, serve, volley and net play as well as daily round robin play and skill game favorites. The day also includes a morning and afternoon snack, a break for lunch and an afternoon swim in the pool. Tennis Camp is held at the JCC tennis courts. In the event of inclement weather, tennis camp is held in the JCC Rimer Gynmasium, using our indoor tennis nets. Campers should bring a tennis racquet, sneakers, bathing suit, towel, sunblock and a water bottle, as well as a dairy or vegetarian lunch. Snacks and tennis balls are provided. Emily Hudak, assisted by high school players, teaches JCC Tennis Camp and brings tremendous energy and experience to our program. Emily has been a tennis instructor at the Bass River Tennis Club as well as the Marblehead High School girls assistant tennis coach in the Fall of 2006. In addition, Emily was the teaching professional at the Kernwood Country Club, working with children and adults of all playing abilities.
Flag Football

Flag Football camp is for kids of all skill levels, targeting either the “casual player” or those that want to join the JCC NFL Flag Football League. The camp focuses on skill development, team practice and games. Campers should wear sneakers and bring sunblock, a water bottle, as well as a dairy or vegetarian lunch. A morning snack is provided. Flag Football camp meets on the JCC Lower Field. In the event of inclement weather, camp will be held in the JCC Rimer Gynmasium.

Dance Camp Explosion 2008 is for boys and girls who want to learn how to perform the latest dance crazes. Held in the JCC’s spacious, modern dance studios, this class includes Hip Hop, Jazz, basic gymnastics, Funky Tap and much, much more. Kids will enjoy their lunch at our outdoor pool complex, weather permitting. Campers should wear either dance apparel or comfortable clothing such as spandex pants, tanks or T-shirts. No jeans or skirts. Ballet, jazz or tap shoes are recommended but not required. Light weight sneakers are acceptable. Campers should bring bathing suit, towel, sunblock and a water bottle, as well as a dairy or vegetarian lunch. Snacks will be provided. Keriann Skerry is currently a senior at Salem State College where she has a double major in Elementary Education and Sociology and a minor in Dance. She is a Dean’s List honors student, a Presidential Arts Scholar, and a recipient of the SSC Creativity Award in Dance. Keriann has been studying various styles of dance for the past 21 years and as a former competitive dancer has had the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas and Disney. She has been a dance assistant for 6 years and has been a full dance instructor for the past 4 years. She is a graduate of the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston’s Dance Teacher Training course and has also successfully completed all six levels of the National Medal Testing program in Tap. Keriann is the reigning Miss Commonwealth, a preliminary to Miss America. As Miss Commonwealth, she has chosen to promote her platform “Dancing to Dignity” encouraging young children to participate in structured dance classes to build their self-esteem and dignity.

It’s time to rock! Join the JCC as we travel to MetroRock (metrorock.com) in Newburyport to experience the thrill of indoor rock climbing. MetroRock is an indoor rockclimbing center that provides state-of-the-art climbing equipment in a climatically controlled and safe environment that is welcoming to all levels of climbers. Rock Climbing Camp will provide campers with a great introduction to climbing including technique lessons, games and adventure elements. Rock Climbing Camp takes place under the supervision of experienced MetroRock staff and JCC staff.

Challenger British Soccer

When your child participates in the JCC’s British Soccer Camp, your child joins over 85,000 other children who will learn soccer the “Challenger Way”. Each day we will practice skills in passing, dribbling, heading and shooting and teach small group and team tactics through an innovative camp curriculum. Campers will scrimmage each day and take time to learn the core values related to soccer, family and school: Respect; Responsibility; Integrity; Sportsmanship and Leadership. New this summer is a lesson about nutrition and the importance of a well balanced diet. Each day will include a break for swimming at the JCC or a nearby beach, under the supervision of JCC lifeguards and staff.
Campers should wear cleats and shins guards and bring a bathing suit, towel, sunblock, water bottle and sneakers,
as well as a dairy or vegetarian lunch. Snacks will be provided and each camper will receive a free soccer ball and t-shirt.

Start your engines and get ready to blast off! In this exciting program, campers will create their own transportation projects, which they will test and keep as part of their science collection. Each day we will visit a new topic and create a new project. Each camper will get to build their own Maglev Train, Hot Air Balloon, Solar Car, Basic Rocket, and section of an airfoil (Flight). All projects in this camp are taken home with additional reading materials for further learning. Kids will enjoy their lunch at our outdoor pool complex, weather permitting. Join professional actor and casting director Eve Williams to learn the fundamentals of acting through fun games and activities. Through vocals, singing, puppetry, skits and improvisational acting, children will learn to develop their own voice, the voice of different characters and how to act in front of an audience. In addition, each child will receive their own prop bag filled with fun acting props as well as a class journal. The children will use their journals to reflect on what they have learned and participate in fun writing activities. Each day will also include snacks, a break for lunch and swimming. Join the staff of Brickhouse for a special week of camp, which will include basic and advance instruction tailored to the skill level of the campers, as well as instruction in movie making and deck/helmet design. In addition to skateboarding, kids will learn about filming, lighting, and framing shots. Footage will be taken of the kids during the week and made into a movie. In addition, kids will design a blank deck and their helmet with stencils, markers, spray paint and grip tape. Each day will also include snacks and swimming. The JCC is passionate about instilling a life-long respect and love of exercising and healthy lifestyles in our youth. Tri Training for Kids will give your kids a healthy workout as well as prepare them to compete in an actual race. Each
day will be dedicated to skill improvement in swimming, biking and running, with a mini competition on the final
day of camp. Experts will be on hand to teach the kids everything they need to know about completing a Triathlon,
including training tips, what to eat and bring on race day and what a transition area is and how it works. This is a
great opportunity for the first time triathlete to see what the race is all about. Campers should bring swim gear,
workout clothes and sneakers to camp each day, and be prepared for a workout. On the last day of camp, campers
should also bring their bike and a helmet (does not need to be a road bike.) The camp will take place in the JCC pools,
the lower field, the spinning studio and the bike path in back of the JCC. Snacks will be provided.

Join the JCC as we travel to the Baker School in Salem for gymnastics fun in their brand new facility. The philosophy of the Baker’s School of Gymnastics is to teach children the fundamentals of gymnastics, while encouraging them to enjoy the sport. The Baker School coaches, Michelle and Lisa, have produced many individual gymnasts in the USA and AAU Gymnastics Programs. Baker’s Gymnastics has been open for 26 years with Lisa and Michelle as the owners and founders. They have also been the head coaches for the Bishop Fenwick Gymnastics Team since 1990.

Join the JCC as we travel to Project Adventure in Beverly for a day of skill development in personal and group responsibility, self-discovery and relationship building, communication and collaboration, problem solving and respect for oneself and others. Project Adventure will provide JCC campers with an opportunity to go beyond their pre-conceived limitations through games, teambuilding and exhilarating high and low element activities, such as the Cat Walk Beam and the Tadem Zip Wire. Individual and group success is achieved through peer support and encouragement, not physical strength. Project Adventure enables kids to come away with a clearer understanding of their capabilities and a greater willingness to tackle new challenges in their lives.

Join Peter Scafidi and his staff for a week of baseball mania. The JCC Baseball Camp is designed for the baseball fans who are developing their skills. Coach Scafidi has had over 30 years of coaching experience training children in Little League and varsity athletics. The JCC Basketball Camp is for kids who want to improve their game and have some fun. Each day will include individual and team skill development in passing, shooting, dribbling and ball handling, defense, and rebounding. Each day will also include drills, stations and games as well as a swim in the JCC outdoor or indoor pool. Campers should bring a basketball, sunblock, water bottle, and a dairy or vegetarian lunch. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided each day. Peter Scafidi is in his fifth year coaching the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Trinity Catholic High School in Newton. He has also coached the girls team at Nobles and Greenough for two seasons and AAU basketball for 16 seasons, winning three state titles and placing in the top ten in national competition. More than 100 girls have gone on to play college basketball from Coach Scafidi’s program (Mass Wildcats/ New England Thundercats.)
